ABSTRACT
New lifestyles have caused the abandonment of certain healthy eating habits.
Functional foods have emerged as those that provide health benefits in this context.
Nowadays great importance is given to the use of functional foods to correct any
"dysfunctions or alterations of the intestinal microbiota, using biotherapeutic agents
(prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics), which have been classified as nutraceuticals;
that is, naturally occurring, beneficial to health, with and / or therapeutic active
biological properties defined preventive and capacity. We review some of the strongest
and recent studies that address this issue.
