ABSTRACT
Introduction: Macrodactyly in the foot is a rare entity, and its approach should be comprehensive, since it may be the first manifestation of overgrowth syndromes (Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber, neurofibromatosis), or presented isolated in absence of other malformation.
Objective: Present associated clinical features of patients with macrodactyly in the foot together with the best recommended surgical technique for its treatment, according world reports.
Material and methods: We conduit a retrospective study in macrodactyly patients assessing aggressive management, including amputation of the most affected toe, ephyphysiodesis and debridement of fat and aberrant tissues in one time.
Results: Favorable results are obtained, both functional and cosmetic. PODCI (
Pediatric Outcomes Data Collection Instrument) scale showed improvement od mobility, physical and global functioning on these patients after surgery.
Conclusions: Aggressive surgical management is a mandatory in macrodactyly on foot, despite etiology, since soft tissue debridement has high rate of failure.
