ABSTRACT
Thyroid hormones have a wide range of activities in human body,
even since fetal life; there are new factors that have been associated in
regulation of endocrine system. There are at least four micronutrients
membrane transporters in the basolateral membrane and at the colloid
interface of the thyroid cell, in target cells there have been recognized
membrane transporters of thyroid hormones (mct-8 and oatp-1c1), they
transport t4 to the cytoplasm for its activation by deiodinase (D2) and
finally binds to specific nuclear receptors (alpha-beta). All these factors
take part in one of the most complex human body’s system. Also it has
been proven that some enzymes depend on selenium to give protection
to thyroid cell by eliminating free oxygen radicals originated by iodine
peroxidation, which is an important step in thyroid hormone synthesis.
