ABSTRACT
The aim of this review is to present scientific evidence on the biological, dietary, cultural and economic advantages of cow´s
milk and dairy products intake in adults, with emphasis on the elderly. The role of milk and dairy products as part of the
regular diet, as well as their contribution to a healthy diet for the aged population is described. The updated scientific references
on the importance of milk and dairy products on the dietary management of the most prevalent diseases of the eldery –among
these energy-protein malnutrition, sarcopenia, obesity, sarcopenic obesity, osteoporosis, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases–
are presented.
