Acute meningitis by Streptococcus viridans. A case report

ABSTRACT

Meningitis caused by Streptococcus viridans is an infrequent form of affectation of the encephalon’s covers. There are reports of isolated cases and scarce series from few patients. Considered a severe infection its early recognition with isolation of the germ and the implementation of an adequate treatment, establishes a relatively favorable prognosis. In the following work, a case of a female patient with neurological sequels is reported. The patient is, at the moment, undergoing a rehabilitation treatment secondary to an encephalic cranial trauma in which a toxicoinfectious frame is presented; also with a meningeal syndrome and conscience deterioration. Isolated from the cerebrospinal fluid one Streptococcus Viridans permitted us to establish the precise etiologic diagnosis.
