ABSTRACT
Introduction. During the last years public and private health institutions have started a certification process to raise the quality level in neonatal attention. This is done by implementation of new therapeutic and diagnostic measures, along with scientific knowledge. The main objective is to diminish the perinatal morbi-mortality rate. The objective was to accomplish a statistical analysis of variables used for evaluation of healthy term newborn infants.Material and Methods. This retrospective study used the medical records of neonates from a private institution in Guadalajara, from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2015. The following variables were analyzed: gender, weight, height, APGAR score, Silverman-Anderson score and birth diagnosis. We used descriptive statistics and expressed it as percentages, averages, standard deviations and median. Data process was done with Excel.
Results. Neonatal attention is defined by the series of actions, care, interventions, and procedures done from birth up to 24 hours after. Due to the results showing a low morbidity and mortality among normal pregnancies reaching 39 weeks, we infer that the neonatal attention program was adequate and with high quality.
Discussion. An institution certified by national standards guarantees patients a qualified attention, along with less neonatal morbidity and mortality.
