ABSTRACT
Introduction: Acute coronary syndrome in women is one of the most important health problems which we as a society currently face. It is a problem with multiple dimensions due to the difficulties in its diagnosis and the greater morbimortality.
Objective: To determine the clinical behavior of acute coronary syndrome in women in the cardiology unit of the Manuel Ascunce Domenech University hospital in Camaguey during the period January 2011 to January 2013.
Methodology design: An observational, descriptive, transversal study was done using a population of 446(four hundred and forty six) patients from which a sample of 212 (two hundred and twelve) were selected using the EPIDAT statistics program. Descriptive statistics were used the results were presented as test, table and graphs.
Results: 37.3% (thirty seven point three percent) of the patients were over 70 ( seventy) years of age, 31,6% (fifty percent) had non ST elevation, non Q wave myocardial infarctions (MI), followed by 23,6% with ST elevation, Q wave myocardial infarctions the patients with ST elevation MI´s had the highest number of complications, principal among those being, post infarction angina. The majority of patients were alive upon discharge. The mam cause of death was cardio-genic shock.
