ABSTRACT

Introduction: The objective of this review is to discuss the state of current knowledge on the auditory neuropathy. Development: We consider the controversies that exist at the moment around the definition and inherent concepts to the term neuropathy or auditory dys-synchrony. Their clinical manifestations are commented as well as the relationship with other auditory and extra-auditory clinical entities. It is justified not considering properly the neuropathy in the group of the dysfunctions of the auditory central processing. Some aspects about their frequency are remarked and some guidelines for their attention and handling rehabilithy are mentioned. Conclusion: In this review the current clinical and audiological features are analysed in order to identify and t rehabilitate the auditory neuropathy.
