ABSTRACT
Objetive: To diagnosis Rotavirus as cause of diarrhea.
Method: 426 faeces samples from the same number of children under 5 years old, hospitalized in Hospital
Pediátrico Docente ¨Juan M. Márquez¨, were studied from January up to December 2012 by cromotographycal
rapid test in order to diagnosis Rotavirus in faeces.
Results: Infectious etiology was determined in 56, 8% in the studied cases. Rotavirus was the most frequently
identified (40, 14%) being osmotic diarrhea, respiratory symptoms, fever and vomtting the main symptoms
presented. The age most frequently related with Rotavirus was between 3 and 11 months Only in 12 cases was
associated with other pathogens.
Conclusions: Rotavirus was the main and unique pathogens identified in osmotic diarrhea, being associated to
fever, vomitting and respiratory symptons.
