ABSTRACT
Our aim was to characterize congenital malformations identified through prenatal ultrasound and pathological examination. A descriptive and cross-sectional study carried out in the Ramón González Coro hospital during the period 2008 - 2012. Ultrasound and autopsy findings were related. The products were predominantly male, of mothers aged between 20 and 34 years old and death occurred before the 26 weeks of gestational age. The most affected anatomical systems causing major birth defects were: cerebrospinal, chromosomal and musculoskeletal systems. There was a suitable level of prenatal diagnosis. The autopsy was the best tool for the definitive diagnosis of congenital malformations.REFERENCES
