ABSTRACT
The styloid process is originated from the tympanic portion of the temporal bone, its growth or ossification of the stylohyoid ligament may cause stimulated pain by cranial and sensory nerves. Some of these symptoms in the presence of an enlarged styloid process are known as Eagle syndrome. The diagnosis is based on clinical examination and CT imaging. Surgical treatment is indicated in those who fail medical treatment and can be performed by transoral or external approaches. This paper report a patient diagnosed and treated in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of the Medical Surgical Research Center and makes a review of this topic.
