ABSTRACT
Ventriculitis is an infectious
disease that affects the central
nervous system cavities called
ventricles. This condition
is linked to patients with
ventricular shunts due to an
impaired circulation system
of cerebrospinal fluid. The
wrongful diagnosis of this
condition with meningitis and
inappropriate use of antibiotics
can mask a case of ventriculitis,
which leads to therapeutic
failure with use of resistant
antibiotics and persistent
infection. It is important to
know the risk factors and
symptoms that a patient may
present because this condition
must be diagnosed as early as
possible to receive an adequate
treatment and prevent possible
life threating sequels.
