ABSTRACT
The sticky platelets syndrome is a clinical condition which involves disorders in platelet aggregability characterized by abnormal increase of the same and tendency to the occurrence of vasoocclusive, arterial and venous phenomena. The sticky platelets syndrome was described in 1983, its pathogenesis is unknown, its existence can only be defined with platelet aggregation tests and this has been important to rule out that this is an artifact of laboratory. The prevalence of sticky platelets syndrome is not known in detail, but evidence suggests that it is common, some authors have noted that the sticky platelets syndrome is responsible for 20% of unexplained arterial thrombosis and 13% of venous thrombosis that is not possible to identify a cause. The sticky platelets syndrome is a frequent condition in Mexico, reports of clinical evaluation of Mexican patients are scarce, suggesting to perform rigorous prospective studies to document the magnitude of this syndrome. The success of their treatment has been described and genetic studies have been conducted without obtaining clear associations. It is necessary to include the search for sticky platelets syndrome by conventional platelet aggregometry in all patients who meet the clinical features discussed in this text.
