ABSTRACT

For the treatment of chronic periodontitis, non-surgical therapy includes quadrant scaling and root planing, which enjoys scientific support due to its effectiveness. The concepts of full mouth disinfection and debridement are alternatives available for the non-surgical treatment of this disease and the objective of this literature review is the description and analysis of the clinically relevant treatment protocols available in the scientific literature in order to compare clinically full mouth disinfection with and without chlorhexidine against conventional scaling and root planing by quadrant.
