ABSTRACT
The author presents his experience using biodegradable self-reinforced polylactide (SR-PLLA) plates, and screws in orthognathic surgery to fixate horizontal and segmentary osteotomies of maxillae in 142 cases. Experience was confirmed by using the same elements to treat acute fractures, old fractures, and craniodisostosis for a total of 208 cases with maximum follow-up of 8 years. Characteristics of these materials are described, as well as the method used to place them; indications and complications are observed.
