ABSTRACT
Background: Body composition during pregnancy, it´s submitted
to huge changes affecting all of its components. So far there is only one
indicator, to evaluate this changes, weight.
Objetive: Describe and compare changes in body composition, by
using bioelectrical impedance vector analysis, in pregnant women,
during each trimester of pregnancy.
Methods: Body composition during pregnancy was assessed by bioelectrical
impedance analysis (BIA) using an impedanciometer InBody
TM
S10, in 65 pregnants, 18 up to 40 years old, in the COIPIS program of
Hospital Regional Lic. Adolfo López Mateos, ISSSTE. From Resistance
(R) and Reactance (Xc) values, it obtained the bioimpedance vectors
and developed tolerance ellipses.
Results: We recruited a total of 65 pregnancy women, 6.15% of first,
32.31% of second and 61.54% of third thrimester. The findings in BIA
study were a significative decrease in R and Xc absolute values and
standardized by height (R/H, (Xc/H) during pregnancy. Media ± SE for
R/H in each thrimester was 385 ± 62.0, 373.6 ± 59.3, 341.9 ± 49.6
respectively; and for Xc/H 39.3 ± 3.7, 39.2 ± 6.7, 34.4 ± 6.6 in first,
second and third thirmestre. Tolerance ellipses been graficated by BIVACONFIDENCE
program. Significant differences been reported between
second and third thirmestre (
p=0.0375).
Conclusion: Body composition during pregnancy, assessed by
bioelectrical impedance vectors, were different in each pregnancy
thirmestre; finding changes in body fat deposition and increase of the
total body water amount. The bioimpedance vector analysis is a useful
tool in the assessment of pregnant women.
