Integral relaxation of nasal pyramid: a new surgical technique for closing septal perforations

ABSTRACT
Background: Nasoseptal perforation is the partial or complete
absence of one of the septal components, such as mucosa, cartilage or
bone, which causes an obstructive nasal syndrome, and the origin can
be multifactorial. The repair of a nasoseptal perforation is a challenge for
surgeons, because sometimes we can repair the defect but the patients
persist with nasal symptoms.
Objective: To report our experience in the management of nasoseptal
perforations, using a new technique, in which we use advancement
flaps and cartilage grafts of the pina.
Material and Method: A retrospective and descriptive study about
our experience in the management of nasoseptal perforations, using a
new technique, in which we use advancement flaps and cartilage grafts
of the pina. We included patients referred to our service, most of them
with symptomatic perforations bigger than 1.5 cm.
Results: 203 patients were included, of which we obtain the complete
closure and relief of the nasal symptoms in 200.
Conclusions: It was demonstrated the efficiency in the repair of the
nasoseptal perforations with this new technique.
