ABSTRACT
Cerebral aneurysms in children under 14 years are extremely rare; their prevalence ranges from 0.5 to 4.6% and their incidence is 2.3%. In the general population, posterior inferior cerebellar artery aneurysms have a low incidence, ranging from 0.28 to 1.44% (m = 1.12%). In pediatric patients, this particular location is so rare that there is no statistical data available. 75% of newly diagnosed aneurysms in children are admitted to the ER presenting subarachnoid hemorrhage; 94% of them are diagnosed using digital subtraction cerebral angiography. Meanwhile, less invasive methods like computed tomography cerebral angiography gain acceptance due to their increased sensibility and specificity to diagnose cerebral aneurysms.
