Suicide tentative on adolescents from the location Bartolomé Masó during the period 2013-2014

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Adolescent is defined as a main stage of the important cycle between childhood and adulthood, which starts with the puberty changes characterized by deep biologic, psychological and social changes.
Objectives: To characterize the adolescents with suicide tentative notified in EDO card during the period 2013-2014.
Methods: A retrospective and descriptive study was carried out. The sample was formed by 25 adolescents with suicide tentative from the health area of Policlinic of Bartolome Masó municipality, Granma. The studied variables were : age, sex, occupation, living place employed method for suicide and the motives for it. Data were obtained through the register of suicides from the obliged disease declaration (EDO) from the Mental Health Department and through a questionnaire about the general information of the patient, address, date of the suicide tentative and method employed for it.
Results: The major number of suicide tentative was from the 15 to 19 years old, with a predominance of the females and their origin was particularly urban from Zarzal locality .Students predominated (84%). The method used for the suicide tentative was the ingestion of pharmacs, meanwhile the number of suicide tentative increased to 41.7% in 2014.
Conclusions: On the suicide tentative there is prevalence on the ages from 15 to 19 years old. In the feminine sex was used the ingestion of pharmacs and there is an increased in 2014.
