ABSTRACT
Introduction: Dream night pulse oximetry provides an important screening method or screening to detect those cases presenting oxyhemoglobin desaturation
during sleep, which constitute a major pathophysiological change in the syndrome of sleep apnea. In this paper we present the new manual method used to determine the nocturnal desaturation in patients suspected of apnea, hypopnea, taking as reference files created with the program OXYTREND extensión.oxi the Cuban oximeter OXY 9800.
Objective: The aim is to show the final data handling models using Windows Explorer, NotePad, Microsoft Office (Excel) and two macros created, in addition to modifications the hardware, for the results achieved and to propose these amendments to the Central Institute of Digital Research for a new version of this
equipment.
Development: 232 patients were studied in five years to determine the amount of desaturation less than 90% and more than 10 s duration per hour for three or
more hours of sleep a night.
Conclusions: The change in heart rate, average, maximum and minimum values, the recording time, the total desaturation, joined the clinic helped us raise more
safely positive or negative diagnosis of the sleep apnea syndrome. We propose these changes to the equipment OXY 9800.
