ABSTRACT
Introduction: some interdisciplinary learning strategies are required so that health sciences students can adequately acquire the necessary abilities. Objective: to identify, from the professors' perspective, the elements that are affecting the learning in health sciences and the acquisition of the necessary skills included in the health sciences curricula and that may have an impact on the future quality of research.
Methods: descriptive, cross-sectional pilot study with exploratory aims conducted at the University of Medical Sciences of Camaguey province in the 2013-2014 academic year in which 77 professors were interviewed.
Results: the results showed the presence of an experienced group of professors whereas the analysis revealed similarities in the answers provided by the surveyed persons. It was observed that integration of other disciplines (statistics, informatics and English language) into their systematic work was poor, these disciplines are necessary to solve local problems through research. They admitted that they should include the assistance as well as the social aspects in their systematic work.
Conclusions: it was possible to identify from the professors' perspective those elements that are affecting or not the learning process in health.
