ABSTRACT
Chronic venous ulcerations remain a major challenge in medicine with incapacitating clinical and economic
repercussions. Recent evidence indicates that as of 2015 there is not an effective treatment available
superior to venous compression and simple dressings considered as the gold-standard. The maltodextrin
polymer with zinc oxide is a biodegradable non-toxic type III Medical Device based on a natural
vegetal polymer that in experimental and initial clinical evaluations has shown an improved healing
of these ulcers with a marked improvement in the quality of life (control of pain, itching and secretions)
and, due to its advantages of being cost-efficient, environmentally-friendly and not requiring refrigeration,
it could represent an advantageous treatment for these chronic ulcerations.
