ABSTRACT
In the introduction, author recall the classical parameters that allows to study the sagittal shape of the spine, according to the vertebral curves (lordosis, kyphosis, spino-pelvic parameters, sagittal balance). Later, author propose a completely different perspective to analyze the shape of the spine, not in sagittal or coronal plane, but in a vertical plane, that is, integrating gravity as axis of construction, in 3D. Starting with an analysis of a global corporal scheme (spine is part of it), muscular synergies are introduced by the use of several reference points, defining tension lines, as well as functional and anatomical arches. Stands out the importance of the respiratory function as stabilizer of thoraco-lumbar spine shape. This shows that whatever the pelvic or spinal anomaly, biomechanics scheme depends on a unique law attached to gravity: «The pendulum law». This law allows to define an «ideal» spine of reference, comparing it to opposite models. It evokes the practical and therapeutic semantic interest of such perspective.
