ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate the impact of the implementation of Ponseti’s method in the treatment of patients with PEVAC in the «Dr. Aurelio Valdivieso» Hospital in Oaxaca.
Material and methods: An ambilective study is presented (2009-2012), taking into consideration the surgical procedures (LPM) performed on patients with PEVAC. In the study the impact of the implementation of the Ponseti method in our hospital is analyzed. We divided the period of study into two periods: 2009-2010 and 2011-2012. We then considered the total number of patients diagnosed with PEVAC and the number of LPMs. Rates have been adjusted. The values report, in relative frequencies: the two periods were compared by way of a χ
2. A value of p ‹ 0.05 were considered significant.
Results: The period of study covers 69 feet (49 patients). 34 in the first period and 35 in the second. During the first period 34 surgical interventions were carried out (LPM), and 2 in the second, an absolute reduction of LPMs of 94.3% (p ‹ 0.001).
Discussion: After the introduction of Ponseti’s technique the necessity for major surgery was significantly reduced. These results concur with the literature available worldwide.
Conclusion: The Ponseti method is effective in the treatment of PEVAC to reduce the frequency of LPMs.
