ABSTRACT
The purpose of the study was to establish the existing relationship between the physical work load and habits of study and work; the population is composed by clarinet students of three higher educational schools in Santiago de Cali, in 2012. A descriptive cross-section study was carried out at 12 clarinet students, there was an anticipated consent. A Polar RS800cx heart rate monitor was used to measure the physical load according to the heart rate while the students were playing the instrument so it was possible to analyze the relative cardiac cost. The study habits were measured with a survey about average study and recital times also rests and study postures were taking into account. The students' age range was between 18 and 35: 7 of them have been playing the instrument for more than 5 years, with one hour and a half practice times. Most of them don't do rest periods during the first 40 minutes of performance. The heart rate range during the study times was between 78 and 90 beats per minute, the Relative Cardiac Cost average for the group was (11 ± 4) % . As a conclusion, there wasn't any evidence relationship between the physical work load and study habits study. However was tendency to the relationship between study times and recitals; it was also observed correlation between heart rate at rest and heart rate doing applying activity.
