ABSTRACT
Introduction: addressing the airway is an anesthesiologist challenge and its
success is the cornerstone of treatment for most patients requiring general
anesthesia.
Objetive: demonstrate the effectiveness of laryngeal tube relative to the laryngeal
mask in elective surgery.
Methods: controlled, randomized study was conducted at the Hospital Hermanos
Ameijeiras in the period between January 2012 and January 2015. It included
100 patients ASA I and II requiring anesthesia for elective surgical procedures with
less than three hours time. Randomly the device was determined to use: the
laryngeal tube (TL) or TLS-II ProSeal laryngeal mask (ML). The learning curve,
hemodynamic changes and mechanical ventilation and complications of its use was
determined.
Results: the average age in the study group was 52.9 years. There was a slight
predominance of women with 52.5 %. No significant changes in hemodynamics or
mechanical ventilation. The complications were sore throat (29.7 %), dysphagia
(17.5 %), nausea and regurgitation (10%) and dysphonia (2.5 %). The largest
number of complications was presented with the use of the ML. Installation times
were lower in the TL.
Conclusions: the use of the laryngeal tube as an alternative to tracheal intubation
is recommended, so its use in elective procedures were recommended.
