ABSTRACT
Background: seborrheic dermatitis (sd) affecting the scalp (capitis) is a clinical entity of multifactorial etiology characterized by the presence of erythema, pruritus and oily scales, often associated with an increase of lipophilic yeast
Malassezia, the therapeutic management is primarily with topical antifungals and keratolytic agents.
Objective: to compare two treatment regimens for the management of sd capitis with ciclopiroxolamine based shampoo + zinc pyrithione + keluamida (cpo/pz/k).
Material and methods: patients with sd of the scalp (capitis) were divided into two groups, both treated with shampoo cpo/pz/k, for group 1: applied three times per week for one month, and group 2: applied the first week daily and for the next three weeks, three times per weekly, with a 1-month follow-up. Clinical and mycological evaluations (observation of yeast, isolation and identification) were performed.
Results: the study included 39 patients, 20 in the first group and 19 in the other group. The average age of 24.5 years; 22/39 (56.41%) were male and 17/39 (43.6%) were female. The main predominant etiologic agent was
M. globosa 34/39 (87.2%). When comparing both schemes, we observed a decrease of signs and symptoms during the first week of treatment, group 2 presented a significant reduction of clinical data, and also of Malassezia (12%
vs. 8%), offering faster results during the first
week of treatment, which allows better adherence to treatment.
