ABSTRACT
Introduction. Frequency of the angiotensin-converting enzyme gene (ACE) insertion/deletion polymorphism and identification of cardiovascular risk factor in San Luis Potosí population.
Objective. To determine the frequency of ACE I/D polymorphism gene (ACE) insertion/deletion polymorphism and identification of cardiovascular risk factor in San Luis Potosí population.
Materials and Methods. The ACE genetic polymorphism was determined in 57 subjects by the polymerase chain reaction method; in addition was determined the biochemical parameters (glucose and lipid profile) in the study population.
Results. The I/D genotype was the major frequency (49%) in this population, also we found a 26% for the homozygous DD and the 24% corresponded to homozygous II. We observed a prevalence of cardiovascular risk factor dyslipidemias also overweight and obesity in this population.
Conclusion. The distribution of I/D genotype was predominant I/D in this population like others Mexican, European and Asian populations. We observed a important prevalence of overweight, obesity, hypercholesterolemia and hypercholesterolemia.
