ABSTRACT
The Ophthalmological Service of "General Calixto Garcia" hospital has been permanently linked, since its creation, to the formation of ophthalmologists and was the first accredited teaching service in Cuba. The objective of this research study was to present some historical memoirs of "Juan Santos Fernandez" pavilion and of the Ophthalmological Service based on the review of documents from Dr. Jaime Alemany Martorell, who recently died after devoting his life to the development of ophthalmology in Cuba since 1959 and from Gregorio Garcia Delgado, historian of the Ministry of Public Health, as well as interviews made to former workers of "General Calixto Garcia" university hospital.REFERENCES
