ABSTRACT
The malignant fibrous histiocytoma is the most common soft tissue tumor in adults, and it is commonly found after radiotherapy. Weiss y Enzinger described the mixoid malignant fibrous histiocytoma, which shares some features with the mixofybrosarcoma, and is classified according to histology as: low grade (myxoid), intermediate (mixed) and high grade (cellular). Radiotherapy remains a controversial issue in the treatment of this type of tumors. Some authors recommend Radiotherapy as and adyuvant therapy for unresectable tumors, failure to complete surgical resection or intracraneal extension. There are several reports of malignancy after radiotherapy. The presence of these tumors in the head and neck region is rare. The clinical signs and symptoms depend on their location and extension. The most common clinical picture includes pain, hemoptysis, nasal obstruction and epistaxis. The treatment is surgical resection with oncological margins to prevent recurrence. Prophylactic neck dissection is not indicated, just in case of cervical lymph node metastasis or radiological evidence of involvement.
