ABSTRACT
Introduction: The tumors of the nose and sinuses propose diagnostic and therapeutic problems for their anatomical location. Comprise less than 1% of all malignancies and represent 3% of tumors arising in the head and neck.
Objective: Determine the prevalence of malignant tumors of the nose and paranasal sinuses in the Regional Hospital Dr. ValentÍn Gómez Farías.
Methods: A retrospective study of histopathological reports of nasal biopsies were performed during the period of January 2009 to October 2014.
Results: 462 recordings were obtained, of which 446 (97%) were benign pathologies and 16 (3%) malignant. The most frequent tumor was squamous cell carcinoma, followed by melanoma.
Conclusion: In our population neoplasms of the nose and sinuses represent a group of tumors with similar epidemiology as literature, physical examination and imaging studies remain important elements that help us in the diagnosis of malignancy.
