ABSTRACT
The pilonidal cyst is an acquired
condition presented as a cystic
lesion in the sacrococcygeal
region. Results from one or
several hair follicles included
in the skin surrounded by
squamous cells. The most
frequent presentation is the
acute abscess of the cyst as a
painful and fluctuant mass. The
abscess drainage is the standard
treatment; the use of antibiotics
is reserved for severe cases. The
surgical treatment is indicated
in recurrent disease.
