ABSTRACT
Objectives: To determine the degree of adherence to the treatment in patients with diabetes type 2 as well as the adherence to the treatment of the comorbidities most frequently associated, such as arterial hypertension, hyperlipidemia and obesity; to identify the possible causes of noncompliance to the treatments, to make statistical treatment of the data, to analyze and to discuss the results of the study.
Material and method: A monocentric, longitudinal, observational and analytical study was made in patients older than 18 years, with diabetes mellitus type 2 with more than six months of diagnosis with or without comorbidities, such as arterial hypertension, hyperlipidemia and obesity, that assisted to external consultation of Internal Medicine of a health center in Mexico City. Patients with diagnosis lower than six months were excluded, as well as those with co-morbidities that influence the adherence to the treatment, such as chronich obstructive pulmonary disease, hyper-hypothyroidism and cerebral vascular disease, among others.
Results: Twenty-two controlled patients and 33 not-controlled patients were included; of the diabetic controlled patients, 11 had good adherence, 4 had regular adherence and 7 had bad adherence to the treatment; of the 33 diabetic not-controlled patients, 10 had good adherence, 18 had regulate adherence and 5 had bad adherence to the treatment, being the main cause of noncompliance the economic factor.
Conclusions: According to established goals, we found that some patients reached the goals without having a proper adherence to treatment; however, those patients represent the minority, because most patients had regular and good adherence to treatment.
