Contribution of the Discipline Comprehensive Dentistry to the Oral Health Situation Analysis

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the future deontologist should be prepared to do the oral health situation analysis of the population, because of that the subjects of the curriculum must contribute to learn how to perform it.Objective: to describe the contribution of the subjects included in the Comprehensive Dentistry disciplines in the Plan D of the Dentistry career to the learning process of how to perform the oral health situation analysis.
Material and Methods: a pedagogical research was conduct with a qualitative focus. The analysis units were the programs of the disciplines subjects, the objectives, knowledge, the abilities and the evaluation systems were analyze, and the research curricular strategy was study.
Results: seven of the twenty subjects contribute in an explicit way to the learning of the oral health situation analysis. The subjects Introduction of the Comprehensive Dentistry, Health Promotion, and Prevention in Dentistry and Epidemiology in Dentistry give the knowledge related with the topic, Comprehensive Attention to the Family II, III and Comprehensive Attention to the Community guide, perform and evaluate what make possible the formation of the ability in the students. The remaining subjects contribute to the knowledge and the ability to perform the diagnosis of the health problems.
Conclusions: the subjects of the Comprehensive Dentistry discipline contribute to the learning process to perform the oral health situation analysis; however their systemic conception should be perfected in the discipline so that the student assimilates and exercise the methodology better to execute this type of projects of community intervention.
