ABSTRACT
Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) has been for decades one of the leading causes of death in the world and in Cuba.
Objective: To characterize patients with acute myocardial infarction with ST-segment elevation in the guard of ICCCV, from May 2009 to May 2013.
Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study that included 402 patients treated in the emergency room of ICCCV with that diagnosis was made. The variables used were: sex, age, risk factors, topography of infarction, time of arrival to the hospital, reperfusion therapy, ball and needle door times and complications door. The relative frequencies in percent, mean, median and standard deviation were used.
Results: Most patients were male (72.38%) sex The most common age group was 60-69 years (30.09%) and hypertension risk factor most represented (65.17%). Myocardial bottom topography was the most frequent and 80.09% of patients arrived six hours before seeking medical consultation. The 85.29% received reperfusion therapy. The median times ball needle and door door were 30 and 60 minutes respectively. The Cardiac Arrest was the most prevalent complication.
Conclusions: The characteristics of patients with AMI and implementation time of reperfusion therapies, influenced the choice of treatment and the appearance of complications.
