ABSTRACT
A descriptive cross section study was carried out from December 1998 to February 2000, in a 100 clinical cases. The patients received a knee diagnostic therapeutic arthroscopy to determine the frequency of isolated and associated patellar chondromalacia with other knee pathologies, and to identify the patellar chondromalacia characteristics in relation to age groups, gender, degree of affection, and location of lesion. The 1961 Outerbridge classification was used to know the degree of affection. The results were as follows: patellar chondromalacia was found in 93% of the cases. It is more frequent in the third decade; the average age is 38 years, predominantly in women with a 60%. In 93 patients with patellar chondromalacia, it was always associated to one or several knee pathologies. It was mainly associated to synovitis, patellar lateralization, arthrosis, and trauma history.REFERENCES
