ABSTRACT
The physician who works with psychiatric emergencies should be able to tell the difference between psychiatric conditions and those conditions that belong to other medical specialties. In the emergency room, there is a group of troubles that may appear which have a psychopathological presentation but are caused by a global medical illness or specific neurological condition; therefore, they must be treated by an Internal Medicine specialist. In general, medical conditions with psychiatric manifestations may present with acute brain and physical symptoms, and with confusion of consciousness. So, it is possible to find disorders of consciousness, memory and attention, among others. This paper makes a summary of the main psychiatric illnesses that may cause sudden death.REFERENCES
