ABSTRACT
The post partum phase is a period of increased vulnerability, which is why it is essential to recognize the psychopathological risks in the early or recidivism stages of various emotional disorders. Objective: To recognize with the prevalence of post-partum depression symtomatology in urban, rural and indigenous populations.
Materials and methods: The application of the Edinburgh Post-Natal Scale questionnaire to 183 patients in urban, rural and indigenous areas in central Veracruz.
Results: There was significant data obtained in 23% of the participants, of which 16% belong to the urban population, 26% to the rural population and 27% to the indigenous population. In comparison studies, there is no significant statistical difference between the three groups, according to the instrument cutoff point p = 0.194, and the University of Durango cutoff point, p = 0.0793, and the National Institute of Perinatology cutoff point, p = 0.794. Level of significance: 0.05.
Conclusions: Post-partum depression should be contemplated on the basis of the bio-psychosocial variables and the identification of these episodes in the early stages will prevent the negative consequences, either for the mother or for the child.
