ABSTRACT
At present, patients request more often dental outcomes that benefit their appearance, with a high aesthetic level; this imposes to develop capacity and adaptability to satisfy these demands; circumstance that obliges to have more ability and an adequate attitude for interdisciplinary planning and management. Patient assessment must be individualized by combining the clinical conditions observed with their personal expectations. As part of it, different guides can be used for suiting a correct definition of gingival margins; periodontal plastic surgery procedures, combined with clinical lengthening procedures, allow accurate gingival scalloping definition and adjustment of tooth height, as well as to determine the appropriate distance between the margin of the prosthetic preparation and alveolar ridge. This work shows a planning approach, where communication between the patient-clinician-laboratory prevails to improve not only appearance, but also stability in the results, ameliorate the prognosis. The case presented offers an alternative for the precise achievement of dentogingival harmony, with an increased prediction with the support of carefully planned preprosthetic periodontal surgery.
