ABSTRACT
Following amputation, patients may develop chronic pain. The causes may be complex regional pain syndrome type II, phantom limb pain, and neuropathic pain secondary to the development of a stump neuroma at the site of nerve cut. Phantom limb is the persistent perception of a body part after it has been removed by amputation or trauma. Phantom sensations can occur anywhere on the body, but they manifest most often in the extremities. The aim of this report is to describe a case of phantom limb pain in a patient with left infracondylar amputation resolved with an analgesic treatment we proposed. Following amputation, she was treated with morphine sulfate, paracetamol and lysine clonixinate without adequate analgesia, so the analgesic therapy was modified with tramadol, morphine sulfate and pregabaline, obtaining an adequate response. Upon discharge, she continues with pregabaline as neuromodulator.
