ABSTRACT
Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) is a common articular pathology that causes pain in the knee joint of young athletes and that increases their incidence daily. Within its causes several are proposed such as: trauma, ischemia, ossification defects, epifisial abnormalities and genetic causes. MRI has proved to be a reliable method for the diagnose of OCD, since it does not expose the patient the radiation, brings excellent anatomic detail of the soft tissues. Typical findings of OCD by MRI include a focal oval or lenticular image located in the ubchondral bone, hypointense in the T1 sequence. Some studies have shown good results with conservative treatment, specially in young patients. Among the surgical therapies for cases of instability are included: mounting with fragment of bone graft, nails of Kirschner, biodegradable pins, arthroscopic debridement, autologous osteochondral graft (mosaicoplasty involving), and autologous chondrocyte implantation.
