ABSTRACT
Diabetic retinopathy causes blindness, which can be prevented by timely detection and treatment. The delay of
institutional care leads to late detection of patients, as a result of the need of evaluating patients without risk of visual
loss. Alternate care strategies are proposed, which could shorten the delay in detecting and treating diabetic
retinopathy, and optimize the resources for treating patients with vision-threatening disease.
