Development of infirmary in the conventional mechanical ventilation in the neonate

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The personnel of infirmary that works in the neonatal intensive care units is an executioner par excellence of the development of its competition and acting from which depends the life of the small infant.Objective: Determining the degree of knowledge of the personnel of infirmary on the conventional mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit.
Method: it was carried out a descriptive and retrospective study, with male nurses that worked in the area of intensive therapy, of the service of Neonatology, in the Gynecobstetric Hospital of Guanabacoa from January to December 2011, the compound sample was of 25 male nurses that were working physically in such service in the same period of time and place. They were analyzed related variables with the knowledge for the personnel of infirmary like: Formative courses in mechanical ventilation, affections associated with the conventional mechanical ventilation and knowledge of complications.
Results: The 76% had not received courses of mechanical ventilation, the majority knew affections related to the possibility of requiring it, but they didn't identify complication that could appear.
Conclusions: it was determined that it was not enough the degree of knowledge of the personnel of infirmary on the complications of the conventional mechanical ventilation in the studied Intensive Care Unit.
