Introduction: The infirmary has as its base the art and the science and together they model the attitudes, intellectual competitions and technical abilities in order to satisfy the necessities of health of all patients. Objective: Evaluating the acting of the personnel of infirmary in the behavior with the ventilated neonate.
Method: Descriptive, prospective and transverse study in order to evaluate the acting of the personnel of infirmary with the ventilated neonate in the service of neonatology of the General University Hospital Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima of Cienfuegos. The sample was conformed by 26 male nurses, in the period of January 2010 to January 2011. The used variables were: years of labor experience, years of experience in the neonatal intensive care units, occupational level, postbasic courses and result of the evaluation of each technique.
Results: The 50% of the sample that participated in the study were graduates, with updating courses and more than 10 years of experience. The greater difficulties were observed in the realization of the endotraqueal aspiration technique, mainly for the personnel with graduate level, with regular qualification, according to the scale of classification for puncture.
