ABSTRACT
Steroid treatment or some immunosuppressive diseases can modify the typical dermatophytosis of glabrous
skin, causing atypical patterns, including
TINEA incognito, which can be mistaken with other dermatoses.
“
TINEA incognito” is not always associated with steroid treatment. We describe five patients with different
systemic uncontrolled diseases which presented atypical cutaneous manifestations of dermatophytosis: two of
them related with steroids treatment. Four dermatophytoses cases caused by
Trichophyton Rubrum var. “Yellow”
and one by
T. Tonsurans. Using antifungal susceptibility microdilution in broth test, the isolated strains showed
susceptibility to ketoconazole, itraconazole, fluconazole and terbinafine. The treatment was different for
each patient and included oral fluconazole or terbinafine plus topical amorolfine (two cases). A clinical and
mycological cure was obtained in six weeks.
