ABSTRACT
Pyoderma gangrenosum belongs to the neutrophilic disease spectrum, which clinical and histologically
constituted a diagnosis challenge. Adults are affected more than pediatric population.
Clinically is characterized by ulceration with a violaceous border and necrotic fund, with negative or unspecific
results in bacterial cultures. Pediatric patients can present weight lost, anemia, and fever.
In children buttocks and lower extremities are more frequently affected —associations with inflammatory
bowel disease, arthritis, and hematologic malignancies have been established.
No specific therapy is uniformly effective. In patients with an associated underlying disease, the effective therapy
of the related condition may be associated with a control of the cutaneous process as well. The treatments
most frequently used are systemic and topical steroids.
