ABSTRACT
The prevention strategy to reduce the unquestionably growing incidence of malignant melanoma, and
keratinocyte carcinomas (basal-cell and squamous-cell carcinoma) is centered in reducing risk factors
in a primary (ultraviolet radiation) and secondary manner (early diagnosis, e.g. self-exploration, dermatoscopy,
confocal microscopy). The identification of the genes involved in carcinogenesis (e.g. gens for skin or
hair color), its mutations and interactions, every day clarify even more the multiple reasons of the increase in
skin cancer. The increase of bad habits (smoking, tanning, and so on), and the use of immunosuppressive drugs,
make us understand the imminent and ingenious necessity of a better interventional epidemiology.
