ABSTRACT
Sporotrichosis is a chronic subcutaneous mycoses caused by
Sporothrix Schenckii, and acquired by traumatic
inoculation or inhalation of spores. It has a worldwide distribution, and is found mainly in Central and
South America. We present 16 cases studied at the Instituto de Dermatología y Cirugía de Piel de
Guatemala “Prof. Dr. Fernando A. Cordero C.,” of which eleven cases (69%) presented the fixed form and 5 (31%)
were lymphocutaneous. All cases were confirmed by mycological culture and also biopsy was performed in 38%.
We discuss efficacy of medical treatment with potassium iodide.
