ABSTRACT
Cardiovascular risk factors were at the beginning more related to vascular dementia that to
Alzheimer dementia (AD). However, during the last decades significant advances and researches
have taken place and have increased the knowledge about Alzheimer disease. In addition, the
last studies have found dissociation between the pathological brain findings and the symptoms of
the AD. The limits between the cerebrovascular disease and the vascular dementia (DV)
are difficult to define, many factors that are related to cerebrovascular disease and to the
vascular dementia are related. Many cases of AD do have a simple pathogenesis. The post
mortem studies on patients with
AD and DV have shown the presence of cerebrovascular alterations in the firsts. And typical
alterations of Alzheimer on the seconds. Also, that on both groups are shared common points
such as elderly age and the vascular risk factors: High Blood Pressure (HBP), mellitus diabetes,
obesity smoking addiction, hyperlipidemia, hyperhomocisteinemia y el haplotype E4 of
Apolipoprotein E.
