Sobre la etiología de la esquizofrenia: genes y medio ambiente

RESUMEN
Se hace una revisión de la evolución del pensamiento científico en relación a la etiología de la
esquizofrenia, destacándose los estudios sobre la interacción de la genética y el medio ambiente
en la aparición de esta enfermedad. Se destaca la influencia del desarrollo tecnológico en la
investigación de la etiología de las enfermedades mentales así como la importancia del estudio
prenatal de la esquizofrenia. Se analiza la teoría infecciosa de esta enfermedad y la
programación fetal a nivel celular y molecular. Se señala la importancia de la prevención de la
enfermedad a través de investigaciones dirigidas en la etapa prenatal y en consecuencia a las
medidas necesarias para evitar su aparición posterior.
